Her stomach growling demanded food. Its emptiness emphasized her soul's emptiness. Her open hand extended, begging. Passerby's threw dirty looks, shook heads, disgusted. Her hand stayed, waiting. Some raised theirs, dismissing her. But soon, a youth, moved with compassion, threw change in her hand, but more a smile, kindness filling a need greater than hunger.
