55 Flash Friday

Want to write a story in 55 words? Ok but no more no less. Post. Then let the cool G-man know at http://g-man-mrknowitall.blogspot.com/

Sleek, fast, spectacular. Jumping, diving, frolicking with trainers who love them, showcasing their beauty. Killer whales, SeaWorld's darlings. Mammal, human dancing, a friendship bond. Dawn Brancheau, her experience no match for an agitated whale who killed others prior in captivity. No evidence of whales ever killing any human in the wild.. Food for thought!

Gathered spectators cheered, pumping me with confidence. I turned and flashed a wide smile causing thunderous roars, greater applause. 2010 Olympics. Bracing myself, I pushed off down the hill, an exhilerated rush, soaring like a bird, airborne, free, the wind pushing from behind. Then a bell, an alarm ringing. My daughter's voice, Mom, you up?

I woke up to its bite and felt it gaining strength, building momentum, coloring my world dark.  Irritation filtered through my words.  I brushed my teeth with a vengeance. Exhausted, worried, little sleep had caused it.  I wished the day was ending not beginning. And then His whisper soft, gentle, loving made its edge dissipate.

The earthquake brought horrible devastation. A country destroyed. Many died. A child lay buried under the rubble, trapped in the dark. No food. No water. No comfort. A boy. Alone. Hope for survival seemed dim, but holding onto faith, he believed he would be rescued. The world watched as one boy was pulled to safety.

Her stomach growling demanded food. Its emptiness emphasized her soul's emptiness. Her open hand extended, begging. Passerby's threw dirty looks, shook heads, disgusted. Her hand stayed, waiting. Some raised theirs, dismissing her. But soon, a youth, moved with compassion, threw change in her hand, but more a smile, kindness filling a need greater than hunger.

A nagging pain. Life interrupted. Cancer...chemo, radiation. Hair loss. Independance gone. Balancing despair and faith. Fighting the darkness moving through her body. Fighting to live, to survive. Her daughter, sister, friends watch with sadness, fear, powerless to help, now aware of the frailty of life...feeling it's power, praying for a miracle. Faith can move mountains!

Everyday they huddled in alleyways, on street corners, scrounging, transient, with empty vacant stares; the outcasts, the homeless.
She never cared. Always turned away. But today, reflecting His birth, a gift, the Son, His sacrifice, His love. Reaching in her pocket, she pulled her last bill, handed it to the young woman, smiled. "Merry Christmas, Friend."

My 55

Hiding from their enemies, desperate to be free, longing to live.
They had little oil to light their darkness.
A miracle; a solitary flame danced and flickered in the dark
Then another and another.
Eight days of giving hope, preserving life.
An even greater miracle: His Light, shining in hearts for all eternity.
Happy Hannukah

You wouldn’t know by looking at her
How overwhelmed she felt
broken, lost, alone.
She had been out with friends the night before.
Had a good time, laughed, enjoyed.
But Monday morning she didn’t show up for work.
She had taken her life. None of us saw her desperation - Guilt. Heartbroken. A Christian lost.

Upbeat music…songs proclaiming Santa, reindeers, figgy pudding…..crowds of shoppers gawking in store windows….loaded down with heavy parcels and bags….…glittery decorations adorning stairs, shops, windows. 30 shopping days left until Christmas. A sense of panic, fervor to buy, spend….
Peace. Freedom, salvation….Jesus born in obscurity. Few knew of His birth. Few recognized God’s gift. Few understood…

She noticed the old man in poor attire; hands shaky, face red. 'Alcoholic!' Then she spotted the woman, alone, pregnant. 'Promiscuous!' Holding herself straighter she glanced at the unruly family of eight. 'No self-control!' Adorned in her burgeoning pride, she settled into her seat, smug and confident oblivious to the preacher’s words, Judge not or…..
