Thankful Thursday - Today

“If I am not for myself who will be for me?
Yet, if I am for myself only, what am I?
And if not now, when?” Hillel

Growing up, I heard Hillel's quote so many times but never paid attention to the words. I finally get them.

I get the importance of being there for others, encouraging and supporting them, cheering them on. I also get that I need to believe in me as well, to champion myself.  For too long I thought I didn't count, that what I wanted didn't matter. It's good to support others, but I also need to support myself.

And there are dreams mucking around in my head, things I dream of doing but keep putting off, goals I long to realize but have made a ton of excuses for not doing

I have no idea what will happen tomorrow. A friend of mine was recently diagnosed with a brain tumor. It came out of left field. Her life now is a series of chemo and radiation and hopes for a better tomorrow.

All any of us have is today. So all those dreams...all those goals and aspirations....No more waiting. I've decided, I'm moving on them.

Happy Thursday, Guys.

Sorry to hear the news about your friend. Life is too short to put off doing what you dream of. Good luck to you on reaching your goals.

It's eye opening when something as sad happens to your friend... it really makes you think... I remember a few years ago when a good friend of mine went to visit her parents and she died in a car accident... it made me make some decisions that I was long over due... I wish it didn't always have to be catastrophic things to make me change... because you are so right Nikki, all we have is today xox

So sorry to read about your friend, it is things like this that makes us think. My thoughts go to your friend and all who will be affected by this ...

It is true today is important, we owe it to ourselves to live it the best we can. Love and support our family, help those that we can.

I also think give loved ones a hug!

All the best Jan

Sorry about your friend, Nikki. Yes, we are only promised today and we must make the most of it. I always told my children when they were growing up that we should live like it is our last day on earth. Be kind to one another and do good to others! Thank you for another wonderful post and enjoy your weekend.

Blessings,
Sandi

Life is certainly fragile and uncertain. I was reminded of why my husband decided to retire when he did, back in 2008. After a 34-year career with the Houston Fire Department, he had planned to push it three more years, then retire. But after attending the funerals of two of his friends, both retired from the fire department, both who had big plans to travel and see the country, he came home after the last funeral and made a decision right then and there. He thought of how these two men had plans, but they ran out of time.

And so, without hesitation, he signed the papers, turned in his gear and began making plans. A year later, we set out to make those dreams come true, traveling and enjoying seeing things he'd always wanted to see, doing things he'd always wanted to do. Every day, we feel blessed.

Our lives have settled down somewhat, with the birth of our first grandchild last year, but we have no complaints. We were privileged and blessed to be able to do so much more than we ever dreamed of doing. I'm forever grateful that my husband didn't wait another three years to retire.

Your poor friend. Yes, life is short, and sometimes it's just so sudden. Better to do today what should not be put off until tomorrow. Trust me, I am a born procrastinator, and so that's not always easy. But, so important.

GOD BLESS!
