Thankful Thursday - The Important Things

"What would you grab, if you had to pack up your life in only minutes?" Jodi Picoult

The quote is from Jodi's book, The Storyteller. The novel is about two people who survived the holocaust, one a Jew, one a German soldier. It's a riveting book. Highly recommend it.

But this quote in particular makes me think...makes me wonder what I would do if I had only minutes to pack up my life. Without a doubt I know what I would take.....the things I couldn't live without, the things I'm most grateful for......

-My children, 'thing one' and 'thing two.' They fill up my heart and make life spectacular. Can't imagine life without them in it.
-My closest friends who pump me with life and are constants in wisdom, support and love.
-My memories of the happiest and fun times - hiking the woods, exploring other worlds, seeing the whales, goofing around with family and friends.....
-My writing. It's been my voice, how I've expressed myself and what I used to walk out of shame and into freedom.
-But mostly my faith - Faith is what changed my life in the first place. Faith is what gives me hope and reason to wake up each day with joy and expectancy. Faith trumps all else b/c without faith I couldn't live and with Faith I can soar above everything and anything.

What would you take guys if you had minutes to pack up your life....Happy Thursday!!!

Nice post, Nikki. I would gather up my family, husband and sons and dog. If there were still time, I would also grab my laptop because of the photos and my writing that is stored there.

I would take my child first and foremost and then I would want to have my pictures... Many cannot be replaced, they are such great memories.

There is very little in the way of financial items that I would want or need, I am learning this as I grow older... amazing post as always Nikki :)

Love your post today! If I had to pack and leave in an instant, I'd want my family and my Bible - to remind me of how loved I am! Some coffee would be good.
Love you,
Julie

Hi Nikki,
A good post to ponder! I have often thought about this. My hubby would be first then there are the necessities like my readers and my meds which I can't live without. My Bible and pictures would come too if I had time to grab them. My memories I have with me at all times. Have a great weekend.

Blessings,
Sandi

It's a great question, and one that I think about since moving to the mountains a couple of years ago. Last summer, we did actually have to evacuate for a huge wildfire. Luckily, we had about an hour to pack. In retrospect, I think we did a great job. Important papers, photos, some sentimental stuff, jewelry. Fortunately we only had each other to get out of the house!

But, I'll tell you what the whole experience did. It made me think long and hard about what's really important. In the end, as you said, what really counts is family and friends and faith.

My Bible was the first thing I packed.

GOD BLESS!

This is a thought provoking post. Makes me think what I would pack with myself. And I might start reading that book too. :)
