Thankful Thursday

"Mockingbirds don't do one thing but make music for us to enjoy. They don't eat up people's gardens, don't nest in corncribs, they don't do one thing but sing their hearts out for us. That's why it's a sin to kill a mockingbird." Harper Lee

Some things just make me happy. It's like they were born to do what they do.....to bring joy.....and make people feel good. I don't think they even know they're doing it....they just go about doing what they're meant to.....and in the process.....they give tremendous joy and peace. This week I'm thankful for.....

-My oldest daughter. She cares. Really cares about people, animals and the environment. I hear it when she tells me about her day...the kids she's hooked up with....her dreams to make a difference globally....and even when someone comes along and isn't the nicest...she somehow finds something in them worth praising.
-CF....she's been broken...really hurt but you'd never know it. She sees the good in everyone.....it's hard not to feel good around her.
-skunks. I know....everyone runs from them but I love them. Their small quirky bodies.....the way they waddle and even their smell...ok from a distance.
-blueherons - I had never seen one until we moved here. There's something about seeing them in flight with their huge wings that makes my heart soar. I can be having a really yuck day but if one flies by....boom......I'm happy again.
-The best is His presence. It's better than anything. It gives me so much joy that I want to run, dance, sing and just love the world.

Nikki, thank you for an encouraging post. Love that picture of the Mockingbird. They have quite an array of bird sounds indeed. Blessings and hugs.

I am a nature lover also! When I arise to the new day, I let my lil Abby Girl out to do her business and I will hear a rooster crowing sometimes, and there is this odd sounding bird but I love to hear his good morning hello. To stand at the edge of my carport and just allow God's Love to wrap me up tight....I even do this at night....there are completely different sounds of the night than the morning...All God's Music through his creation: Loved the lightheartedness of your posting today!

Now THAT is an unusual assortment of things to be thankful for!

I drove through "skunk territory" just last night and couldn't bring myself to be thankful :)

Keep dancing! In His presence IS fullness of joy!

Hi Nikki,
Your daugter sounds a lot like my son. Your post is so uplifting and encouraging. Thank you for sharing it and for the smile. Do you really like skunks?? I think they are adorable but as for their scent, no thanks! :) Have a delightful day, my friend.

Blessings and hugs,

Blue herons are truly majestic birds, and it gives me an almost spiritual feeling to see one. And skunks ARE cute with their little waddle. I think everyone would love them if it weren't for the smell! But it is only their defense.

This is an all around WONDERFUL post! First you share a quote from one of my all time favorite movies...then your opening paragraph has me smiling and nodding my head at how you are right on the mark about this...

Your thankful list is a joy to read! Even the skunk part....

This is a wonderfully fresh look at thankfulness. I love the idea of being thankful for things or people who are simply what they're created to be.

Even skunks.

I don't think we have mockingbirds here, but we do have hummingbirds... and you are right, if the only thing those birds do is to sing and spread joy and cheer into our hearts... it is more than enough.

Like you blog posts... they always lift me up. Your honesty, your zest to share the goodness of God in your life... the way you share about your children...

Thank you, Nikki.
