Thankful Thursday. -

"The leaves had fallen from the trees and lay crisp and crackling beneath his feet. Picking one up he marveled at the perfection of nature where leaves were most beautiful at the very end of their lives." Louise Penny.

I love Fall. I love the changing colours of the leaves. I love how everything is getting ready for winter....slipping away....only to return again more brilliant in the spring.

It makes me think about life, my life and the lives of everyone around me and what I want to do next. Another phase of life. A new adventure.

And it also makes me think of the elderly. I've been toying around with writing some of their life stories. Everyone has a story and I love hearing how people arrived at the place they are. How was life to them in the good times and the bad. How did they make it through the tough times. What is their outlook on life now.

The other day I was in a clothing store. As I approached an old woman I heard her laughing to herself. My first thought, she's a bit odd, but when I got close enough, she held up a sweater, still giggling and said, was going to the cash to pay for this and then realized it's mine. I'm getting a tad old I think. Her eyes twinkled and I saw the sweetness and fun in her face.

I think there's a lot for me to learn from the old, especially how to be easier on myself and let things go and accept life on life's terms.

Off to run a group this morning....a writing group. Excited about it. It's gonna be a great day.
Happy Thursday, Guys.

I totally agree with you Nikki... I think the older you get the more you cherish what is important and finding out how someone survived a trial in their lives might help us when we are younger to see a different perspective xox

I love the Fall / Autumn too, I also like that image you've used with the leaves falling, very apt for this time of year.

Older folks just love sharing their stories and they offer so much. Take time to exchange stories, experience just brilliant.

I especially like Christmas when you hear of children visiting 'old folks' homes and singing Carols - a truly wonderful time to share.

All the best Jan

I love listening to the stories told by the elderly. They have so much wisdom to pass on and they can share things from a new perspective because they have been there. Because their stories are from long ago, there is a wistfulness in the telling and one wonders too when they get a twinkle in their eye. I especially enjoy the Christmas stories and the ones told when they are well into the winter of their lives and they are anxious to meet their Lord. Enjoy your weekend, Nikki.

Hugs,
Sandi

OK, that was an adorable story, and I commend that woman for a wonderful perspective on aging! It's not for sissies! But, a sense of humor can carry us far. I think your idea of writing stories of the elderly is great! It's too bad that our society doesn't respect our elders like we used to. They have much to teach us, and we have much to learn.

GOD BLESS!

Great story and how it relates to fall - excellent! Learning to laugh at ourselves, priceless!
Love you sister and yes we have a lot to learn - let us befriend someone older and wiser to bless and be blessed by!
Love you,
Julie

I'm sure you would find some great stories to tell if you decide to go in that direction. I hope you have a wonderful week ahead.
