Heros and Sheros

Linking up with Charlotte at Spiritual Sunday  & Laura at Beholding Glory & Five Minute Friday

How important it is for us to recognize and celebrate our heroes and she-roes!  Maya Angelou

I spent the other morning being interviewed....telling my story - Afterwards I  hung around and talked to some women.  One told me she's reading my book....and is blown away with what I've come through. She said.....I'm her hero.

Those women have a story too. One moved from another country to settle here....to live in a new culture.....far away from family. The other had huge losses that rocked her world. Like me....she learned to fight. Her strength and courage was in her smile and gentle spirit.

Heros and Sheros. They're everywhere.....all around us...in our  neighbourhoods...cities.....around the country......all over the globe - People who shine hope....and inspire courage....

Talking to those women made me think of the heros and she-roes in my life....people like.....
-my good friend who went through some terrible losses yet somehow always offered me and others encouragement and support.....
-A neighbour who lives miles away from family yet opens her heart to embrace me and my family.
-A good friend who took a stand for what she knew was right She risked her reputation for what she believed in.
-Inspirational friends who fight chemo, radiation, medical treatments...never complaining.....always giving the thumbs up sign...determined to beat their illness.
-And many of you....awesome bloggy buddies - whose stories I've come to know....overcoming losses, battling eating disorders and other addictions, fighting illnesses, standing strong as parents, grandparents, single parents....You guys empower me to live my best life......

Heros. She-roes shining courage....determination.....resiliance......and mostly hope.......

None are famous. But all have become the wind beneath my wings....the heros and sheroes in my world......

Did I ever tell you you're my hero? I would be nothing without You.....I can fly high like an eagle cause you're the wind beneath my wings...

Thankful to God for people like them. I always believe that they must have tasted God's love first that empower them to make changes in this dark world. Your own story inspires. Your strength is shown because of Him. Blessings to you sister. Keep strong and let His light in you always shine.

Where would we be without these people? Each of us had someone that did that one thing that makes them special to us.

Oh how the Lord has blessed me by bringing people like whom you've mentioned Nikki into my life.

In the past month I've sent a friend over to read your blogs Nikki as they needed some encouragement after sharing their story of abuse with me.

God Bless xxx

So true! I've been guilty of discounting things I have endured because when I compare them to others' struggles, in my mind they just don't add up. When I discount myself, I discount the power of the Holy Spirit within me that allowed me to overcome past trials.

Thanks for making me think about this!

Your story, as well as your post, always inspire me! You are a she-roe too and I thank God that He is using your story to touch the lives around you for His glory.
I love that song too. Jesus is the wind beneath my wings. Thank you for sharing and proving to everyone out there who is hurting that God is the answer to all our problems and His love can heal the deepest pain. Enjoy your weekend.

Blessings and hugs,
Sandi

So many hero's and shero's...my 5 year old granddaughter who brought me a crown made out of plastic shapes, told me Nina...a princess always needs to be prepared! That stuck with me for a month now. She's a shero in my life! So are you - God has done a mighty work in your life...and you are willing to share with us all!
Love ya sister!

There are heroes among us. They walk in and out of our lives, and so often we don't even know what that great call to courage in their life has been. I am amazed so often when I hear testimony of something that I might never have known were it not pertinent to the moment or a venue of healing.

Such a great post this is.
It reminds me to stop and take notice.

I've never thought of the "she-roes". What a great way to put it. I have a lot of she-roes in my life too, also none of which are famous to the world, but they are to me.

Oh, Sarah, how beautiful! Just hearing the list of those who have blessed your life makes me want to focus on blessing others' lives in a tangible way, too. It is so rewarding and uplifting to give of yourself to others. Really the giver is more blessed than the one who receives.
Thanks for reminding us of the simple acts that make us heroes. And for encouraging us to continue the good fight of faith!
Love the song~always have.

Blessings,
Janis

P.S. And, yes, yeah for Pam--another hero!

Our lesson at church yesterday was to use the Holy Spirit to move us to reach out to others...and He will enable us to be his hands and feet in this world!

It is always amazing to me how strong women are! We rise up to face adversity and God provides the needed strength to endure it. It is so encouraging to me to read about women who have faced strife in their lives and how the Lord has brought them through the storm.

This life here on Earth can be so hard at times. We all need to stand together as Christians - to be encouragers, and provide shoulders and prayers for those who need it. I believe that can be one of our greatest acts of love for our sisters in Christ. To stand by them and encourage them to continue to cling to the Lord, while holding them up in prayer.

Thank you for sharing your post today -
Blessings to you,
Kymber

So true. I've had lots of heroes and she-roes in my life and like you many of them I've met here in blogland. And you are definitely one of those she-roes. I'm so glad you share with us each week on Spiritual Sundays.
Blessings,
Charlotte

Nikki, you truly stand as a she-roe for so many people. And yet, I love the fact that you would be the first person to give God the glory for your life. To me, that's really the icing on the cake.

A hero/she-roe is the one who acknowledges the power of the One to overcome.

GOD BLESS!

When I look at the world and the "supposed" celebrities and important people I am so grateful I do not know any of them! I would rather spend my time with people who have so much to offer! People inspiring us with their faith and courage and no nonsense attitudes toward all the things we fight against in our lives. Your writing is perfectly put! Love and Hugs Anne
