In My Daughter's Eyes

Linking up with Charlotte and Ginger at Spiritual Sunday

"There are places in the heart you don't even know exist until you love a child"
Anne Lamott

I've been watching the Casey Anthony trial....the 25 yr. old mom charged with the murder of her two year old. It's hard to believe Casey is seen partying...having fun....uncaring.....even though she hadn't seen her daughter for 31 days. And seeing the pictures of the beautiful little girl..knowing that her life was taken....breaks my heart.

It makes me think of my own two daughters and my love for them - I would give my life for theirs in a heartbeat. They’re what changed me....and gave me back my life. There was a time I couldn’t feel love.....I ran from it but when I had my girls.....something changed. Everything in me.....wanted to protect them....for them to never go through any of what I had. I wanted them to live differently....happy....easy....safe. I didn't have a mother....sister....or anyone to show me how to raise them.....how to be a mom......I just moved by instinct....I just wanted to give them what I never got.

Friends used to tell me when my girls became teens, they would get mouthy...rebellious...hateful. My oldest is 15, my youngest is soon turning 11. The bond between us is tighter than ever. We spend time together....and talk about everything. And something I do that no one ever did for me.....I tell them everyday how awesome they are and that whatever their dreams are....I'll be in their corner cheering them on. Being a mom was God's way of showing me how much He really loved me....He gave me the best gift ever!

In my daugther's eyes.....I am a hero....

Hi Sarah,
Your story really touches my heart. I can identify with you somewhat because my mother never showed me any affection either. She still doesn't. But like you, I told my children every day of their lives that I loved them and I always made sure they knew how important they were in my life. Today, my boys and I are all very close and we have a special relationship. I thank the Lord for this because it was always my heart's desire to have a close-knit family; something I never had while growing up. Jesus has made all the difference! Bless you for sharing this and have a lovely weekend.

Blessings,
Sandi

Your children are fortunate to have such a loving mother. It's awesome you want to do what your parents didn't. So many repeat the same mistakes. I love your Anne Lamott quote.

May God bless your mothering!

This case, also the Susan Smith one a few years ago. They fascinate us because it is against everything in nature for a mom to do this. And not just in a moment of tiredness and anger, but planned in a cold blooded way. These people are obviously sociopaths, incapable of guilt or comprehending the feelings of others.

Nikki, I've been telling my Mom all week- I wonder what makes Mothers who they are. I respect every tiny bit of what you do. A Mom is a blessing. YOU are their blessing! It's amazing really.

Sarah, you just make me want to hug you tight, this was a beautiful post, my Mom never had any parents....I always thought how hard I would try if I ever had children. reading your post was like reading my words, except for the children....I do not understand how these horrible things happen. hugs to you dear one.

Your girls ARE blessed. And that case is just amazing - that she could go dancing the week her little one was missing. I don't get it. I'm glad your girls have you.

I feel the same way you do, Sarah. I just can't imagine a mother doing the things that Casey did. Before my son was born I was partial to girls. Before he was born I always felt a little sorry for people when they had a boy instead of a girl. I learned a wonderful lesson when Allen was born. Boys are just as wonderful as girls.
The video is beautiful. I had not heard that song before.
Blessings,
Charlotte

I love your post about daughters. I also have two daughters I'm very close to and love very much. And they've given me 3 granddaughters I absolutely adore. God gives a very special gift when He blesses with daughters and granddaughters and the older I get the better the relationship becomes. now we're great friends.
